Is your Blog well Oiled?
A blog can be great tool to brand yourself as an MLM professional; to build relationships; to meet people, maybe new business partners and to learn by connecting you with the community of bloggers. But is it working? How well oiled is it? Are people actually finding it? Driving traffic to your blog is not rocket science, but you need to be aware of some basic tools and requirements. I certainly wasn't when I started and I think my blog was floating around in cyberspace with hardly a visitor for quite some time! Once you commit to it, you will need to put regular time and energy into it. If you want it to generate fresh MLM leads, it's worth it. The key is to get search engines to find you. That requires that you have plenty of good content. You can and should have several pages -- 'About You', a resource or recommendation page, perhaps specific training topics. These are some ideas and what you choose to offer will depend on what the purpose or theme of your blog is going to be.
Creating these pages will be one of your first tasks and will require further work on occasions. However the real graft is in publishing regular posts. These are the meat of your website. To build up content and create 'activity' that the search engines will begin to notice, you will need to post perhaps 3 or 4 times a week to begin with. After that, you should post at least twice a week. Of course things will get in the way sometimes, but this kind of regularity is essential over time.
Article writing may not come naturally to you but you can learn. Visit other blogs. Check out the biggest article directory - Ezine Articles -- for great tips and information. Through your articles you offer value without pitching your deal. That establishes you as an expert; someone who has something to offer and who can be trusted. This starts the relationship building process. You submit your posts to article directories so that they are posted on their websites. This gives you exposure and drives traffic to your blog. The ideal length for an article is around 500 to 1000 words. You can say a lot in that space once you learn some skills.
What vehicle should you use for your blog? WordPress is generally considered the best publishing platform, at least for the beginner and it's free. However I suggest that you use another web server to host your blog. You must have complete control over your website. You will be putting a lot of work into it and WordPress as a host retains some control. I know people who have had their blog deleted by the WordPress hosting service for no really valid reason. In addition it is worth buying a good 'theme' rather than using the free ones offered by WordPress. The theme is the framework or format of your website.
The internet is vast and for you to have a good chance of being found, there are some essential Plugins that should be installed. These are tools that give your site visibility. Think of these like the accessories that make one car stand out from another. The difference is that they are invisible but they are vital. They are items you can download for free, which are not part of WordPress. Here are some you need:
- Google XML Sitemaps -- This plugin will generate a special XML sitemap which will help search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com to better index your blog.
- Ultimate Plugins Smart Update Pinger -- Pings to various services when publishing new or future posts, but not when editing. This is getting you exposed online.
- Yet Another Related Posts Plugin -- Returns a list of related entries based on a unique algorithm for display on your blog and RSS feeds.
- Google Analytics - this is an essential plugin that gives amazingly detailed statistics of the traffic to your blog. When you know where your visitors are coming from and what they view, you can begin to work more effectively. There are different versions available.
OK, so your blog is set up, you have good content and the search engines can find you. What else? If you establish yourself as an MLM guru, your visitors will want to comment on and syndicate your content. Make sure you allow comments and pings. Install buttons on your sidebar so that visitors can post your content to social network sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and others. You can post to your own social network sites but third party referral is much more effective so consider joining a syndication group or set up an informal arrangement with a couple of friends who are bloggers.
Setting up a mailing list is a great way to establish communication with your visitors. Remember this requires further time input, but it can be largely automated. You will feel great when you see visitors to your site, comments on your articles, connections developing and referrals from visitors. Someone who has built an extremely lucrative network marketing business, largely through article writing and his blog is one of my mentors, Richard Dennis. You could learn a lot from his website.
So enjoy yourself and if it all seems a bit daunting, remember even the most successful bloggers started at the same place as you are now.
Setting your blog up right will take some time. But a professional website that is really visible online will bring rich returns over time.
Are you struggling to build a huge business? Most people in this industry don't get real support from their sponsor or their company. Check out free mentoring and training online and find real success.
